UNO students learn about theater careers in web seminar.

Nearly 50 theater majors at the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) learned about marketing careers in the arts through an interactive video chat this week, according to the Omaha Performing Arts newsletter. OPA partnered with The Broadway League to bring the Broadway Speakers Bureau to students in the River City, and the online discussions teach students about non-performance careers in the arts and include award-winning professionals.

This week’s panel featured Mike Karns, a theater producer and CEO of Marathon Live Entertainment, and Victoria Cairl, Vice President of Business Development at Show-Score.com and former senior Director of Marketing at Lincoln Center for Performing Arts. “The panel was so very insightful and inspiring and really challenged the students to think about the many different avenues of employment that can stem from a theater education,” said Lauren, an adjunct theater professor at UNO.

The Broadway Speakers Bureau offers interactive seminars to share information about nonperformance careers in the arts (producing, general management, marketing, etc.) with schools around the country. Speakers include award-winning professionals associated with many of the top Broadway shows such as Wicked, RENT and more. Panelists conduct discussions from a New York City studio via distance learning video conferencing. These seminars are live, and students are encouraged to ask questions. The Broadway Speakers Bureau discussions are produced in partnership with The Broadway League. To learn more or to schedule a seminar at your school, please email Education@omahaperformingarts.org.
